ORIGINAL CONTRIBUTION Physical Activity and Survival After Breast Cancer Diagnosis

چکیده
PHYSICAL ACTIVITY AFTER A breast cancer diagnosis has been strongly linked to improved quality of life. There is reason to believe that physical activity might extend survival in women with breast cancer. Physical activity also has been linked to a lower risk of breast cancer. An expert panel of the International Agency for Research on Cancer of the World Health Organization estimated a 20% to 40% decrease in the risk of developing breast cancer among the most physically active women, regardless of menopausal status, type, or intensity of activity. Physical activity has been linked to lower levels of circulating ovarian hormones, which may explain the relationship between physical activity and breast cancer. Lower estrogen levels among physically active women with breast cancer could potentially improve survival, although few data exist to support this hypothesis. Lack of physical activity has been shown to be related to weight gain during breast cancer survival. 0 Weight gain after a breast cancer diagnosis is a common adverse effect of treatment. This is important because both being overweight at the time of breast cancer diagnosis and weight gain after diagnosis are linked to poorer survival in many studies. Lack of physical activity is believed to be as important a factor as changes in food intake in the ongoing obesity epidemic. Few have studied associations between physical activity and survival and no studies have assessed physical activity level after diagnosis. Rohan et al found no association between physical activity before diagnosis and survival in a population-based prospective study of 412 women with breast cancer. We hypothesized that higher levels of physical activity after a breast cancer diagnosis would be associated with longer survival.

Background and Objective: Breast cancer is the most common cancer and the major cause of cancer death among women. The survival rate for breast cancer indicates the percentage of people that survive the disease for a specified period of time after diagnosis. The aim of this study was analyzing the survival rate of patients with breast cancer in East Azarbaijan province. Materials and Methods...

Previous studies suggest that increased physical activity may lower the risk of breast cancer incidence, but less is known about whether levels of physical activity after breast cancer diagnosis can influence survival. We prospectively examined the relation between postdiagnosis recreational physical activity and risk of breast cancer death in women who had a previous invasive breast cancer dia...

The authors investigated the association between overweight at the time of or soon after cancer diagnosis and survival in a cohort of 1,455 breast cancer patients aged 25–64 years. The patients were recruited into the Shanghai Breast Cancer Study (Shanghai, China), a population-based case-control study, between August 1996 and March 1998. The median follow-up time for this cohort was 5.1 years ...

Introduction: Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women. Today, with advancements in medical sciences, increasing the cure probability of patients as well as increasing survival time is an important goal of cancer treatment. Therefore, in this study, in addition to examining patients’ survival, we investigated the cure probability of breast cancer patients and its prognostic factors u...

Although studies have shown that physically active breast cancer survivors have lower all-cause mortality, the association between change in physical activity from before to after diagnosis and mortality is not clear. We examined associations among pre- and postdiagnosis physical activity, change in pre- to postdiagnosis physical activity, and all-cause and breast cancer-specific mortality in p...
